A Little Weekend Story

When he woke up in the morning, he noticed the time in the clock. “Only a couple of more hours left before I will go out to try my hand at the racquet sport”, he thought. He lay in the bed for a few more minutes before finally waking up and turning the TV on to listen the latest cricket news. Later he packed his bags and got himself ready for the two hours of the sport. He loved it so much, always. A good weekend always meant to be the days full of physical activities for him and no other physical activity could match the tranquility, he always got from the sports.

He reached the venue on time and as he entered the court and put his bag down, he saw a woman entering in. The woman, perhaps in her thirties, belonging to the same age group as his, had a charming pull. He noticed her long curly locks falling down from her head in a careless manner. The woman, while entering into the courts had a straight eye contact with him. It was a phenomenon. The two of them were almost at a distance of fifteen meters and were surrounded by many other players, yet the two of them had a certain eye contact and then their heads nodded as an acceptance of each other’s greetings and presence. The two of them had seen each other for the first time but the gravity, their presence exercised on each other was massive. He noticed and perhaps she too noticed that as she went on the other court to start playing with some other partners.
He too, in an attempt to resist the gravity of the sudden pull, immersed himself in the game, knocking some birdies around. They played for almost one hour in different courts and during the same, they always noticed each other’s presence and waited for the right time to join each other in the same court playing together. The moment came, the two of them joined in the middle court playing against each other. Her radiant Indian skin, long locks, large eloquent eyes, dimpled cheeks, smiling aura and graceful mannerism started affecting his thought process. He played but he was getting into a trans state as if hypnotized. They played a match against each other and that is where the conversation started.
“Where are you from?” He asked while knocking the shuttle
“Make a guess.” She said with a smile replying the racquet shot with the swing of her arm
“Well, I don’t know. Perhaps from India, even Sri lanka. We people have been everywhere, so you too could be from anywhere.” He tried to answer smartly hitting the birdie high up in the air with a strong forehand
“Haha, keep on guessing.” She replied teasingly as she looked up to aim the shuttle and knock it in his court.
Ohh, how much did he like that mysterious aura around her. “She could be a scorpion” He thought to himself as he kept on drawing more towards her.

After the game, they joined together to play against another pair of players. “It could be the start of a companionship, perhaps” He thought. She was vibrant, jovial and great fun during the game and the fun doubled as they won the match. While expressing his joy, the kind of extrovert guy he was, he suddenly hugged her from the side with his left arm. She saw his honest efforts but did not move at all thereby negating the embrace. The negation however was mild and not at all rude. He understood that she was not offended instead she just felt shy. They played together for another few minutes till the time the time of the court booking was over. He went back to the seats where his bag was lying. As he sat, a co-player came to him and asked him to join the Korean Barbecue with them. He denied as he wanted to go to the health club and spend some time in the steam and sauna chambers, relaxing his tired muscles after two long hours of decent work out. He was clear in his mind that he will head off to the club till the time that woman again appeared in front of him. She asked him to join for the lunch with her same warm smile and large expressive eyes and this time he could not say no.

They both had already been the witnesses to an invisible connection between them. Their bodies were drawn to each other as it was evident by the magnetic pull they exercised on each other. They did not have to speak much for the connection was evident but the extent of the connection was to be explored and it certainly had to be a difficult task with a mysterious woman like her. They thought of giving themselves another try and went out together to park their respective cars in the right designated places. A few minutes later they both reached the Korean restaurant and joined the rest of the players. Nothing much could be talked upon among so many people around. It was like a crowd where they both looked lost. He wanted the lunch to be finished at the earliest but the chicken was so unfit for his taste buds that it failed to titillate them completely. Every piece went down the throat after humongous effort. They all chatted but for him it was complete silence as nothing they talked, mattered to him. He was only thinking to know more about her.

Suddenly, as the lunch came to an end, he thought of taking it easy and let it go for some time. Perhaps, this was the best thought because as the thought appeared in his mind, there came the deluge of thoughts and memories of his wonderful family. His family, which had a beautiful wife and two loving kids; the family which had always been his life line and which had always been on his side through the thick and thin. The more he thought of them, the more he found himself at the wrong place. As the lunch ended, everybody set itself to its direction but he already knew the direction. He briskly moved towards his car and went out of sight from everybody else. He did not even say goodbye to her or to the others. Lost in his thoughts, he seated himself in his car. As he drove past the traffic signals, the image of that woman still stayed with him deep etched in his memory. He thought of calling her and telling everything for though he knew that they may not remain together, he also knew that they had a connection, the connection which had its origin in the cosmos, which had its roots somewhere deep down in the roots of this whole universe. The connection was invisible and unknown just a few hours ago but now it was a reality and the core essence of human existence is to accept the reality. Moreover, they both had not even explored the extent and direction of their bond. He understood that it was too early and too naïve to label the bond. Who knows that they actually might become amazing friends in future for the destiny is not something the human beings know so lucidly, it is something which happens to them. So what shall he do?

“Well, it is such beautiful flow of human emotions, desires and confusions during these last few hours, so wonderfully and naturally woven into a lovely poignant story. What better than to pen it down and then share with the world including her.” The thought came to his mind as he reached his home. He stepped out of the car, hurriedly went inside his room and opened his laptop to give words to the flood of thoughts before they die out somewhere like the raindrops in a desert.

O almighty, only you can do this all....

Only you can do this all I found an astonishing place far away from my home, travelled thousands of miles right there in Livingstone. The river Zambezi, placed there on the landscapes just right, And the grand Victoria falls showing me their passion and might. I see the river upside down hanging from that bungee rope, All faces smiling, all eyes beaming; it certainly is the abode of Hope. A small but audacious bird chirping and sitting on the Hippo’s back, And I clicked the moment timeously standing from the river cruise’s deck. The sunset over the river displaying the spectrum of color and shade And I, watching the phenomenon spellbound; wondering, how He made. Crossing the Victoria bridge right through the rainbows, While hearing the thundering sound of the falls coming from very close. That lonely tree still holding its grip on the edges of the fall, O almighty, you and only you can do this a

Being Ambitious or Being Progressive: A subtle difference between the two

It’s a tricky and contentious subject, I chose to write upon. I am sure it will invite a lot of favor as well as critic from the readers. Well, my objective anyhow was to stimulate a chain of thoughts in your minds. This morning, the newspaper was abuzz with the news of Mr Azim Premji joining the Gates-Buffet charitable trust as the 1 st Indian, where he vows to give away a major part of his wealth for philanthropy. Being such a rich man, he still drives a Toyota Corolla, prefers to not to stay in 5-star hotels and leads a very normal life devoid of any frills. I always remember what the great Warren Buffet once said, “If you want to be rich, stop acting rich”. These are a few of those rare exemplary moments which have the potential to be a phenomenon. But unfortunately, in the world we witness today, even such novel ideas don’t have many takers. Please don’t assume that I am a profound philanthropist anyway but I certainly and firmly believe in the fact that un-necessary s

dare to be your true self

Dare to be your true self Standing on the beautiful landscapes of the Mount Entoto in Addis Ababa, the capital city of Ethiopia, I gazed at the sky and yelled at him; “why the results are not always as per the expectations”…..comes back the voice; “Calm down my son, because it just doesn’t matter”. I am surprised, where the voice came from…..is it from the sky? Is it the God himself? Oh, It’s from my inside….amazing, someone always within me, yet so indiscoverable… I asked him, who are you?? The voice came back, I am your friend, the one you never had faith on; I am the origin of everything, you never acknowledged; I am the creator, you never believed on…… “Why do you talk to me then?” I asked. “For the same reason, I talked with Arjuna during the epic of Mahabharata; he had wisdom to understand but yet he was confused; he was capable yet he lacked self-belief; he knew he was wrong yet he questioned to gain the better understanding. You question my presence too; I had no

The HUNT

“Yours is a strange and self-obsessed generation who just can’t get over your personal ego to believe in something. Above all, you take pride in hurting the sentiments of your elders, showing your angst and disbelief against the conventional wisdom”, that is my mother at her rhetoric best. Unfortunately, I could not understand her as she could never understand me. There are millions of parents having the same complaints from their kids. I can’t comment on all of them as I would be too naive and unaware of their feelings. But in my case, I can say that the chasm is not built based on our contrasting beliefs but on the contrary this is a gap between “blind beliefs” and “Questions”. Those who raise the questions and speak their minds can’t be politically correct always. I always say that Human brain confuses; now I also think that the brain is wired in such a way that it understands only polar positions. Anything in between, it finds it difficult to understand. We have given the

On Fire....

On Fire Today after several months, I finally got an opportunity to sit quietly and do nothing in the long flight. When I say quietly, it doesn’t necessarily indicate towards the vocal sounds emitting from the human face’s cavity surrounded by the lips, but this time it is the quietness of the mind. The tranquil state of the brain unknowingly opens those channels where from come the deepest of the thoughts. The silence deep in the heart is the place where resides the mind in it’s supreme state of solitude. I was wondering what this phenomenon actually is, how come sometimes, I don’t hear any noise outside and how come sometimes, it’s all blabbering everywhere? How can sometimes, one can be so unperturbed despite of the quaking external events around? Is it due to the happiness….No, it’s the sublime state of serenity, where one finds true bliss. Is it eternal…?? no, probably not. I still have not mellowed to a stage where I can experience “Eternal Bliss”; but don’t I lov
